I'm a Beautiful Butterfly!

Watch this clip from A Bug's Life:

And then tell me... if your husband picked you up off the couch to carry you to bed and on the way quoted Heimlich saying, "I'm a beautiful butterfly!" wouldn't you wonder what inspired such a comment? After he laid me down on the bed I was laughing so hard and then I said, "so what you're saying is that I'm a fat caterpillar?" John was quick to deny that he was implying anything about my weight and kept insisting that no, it was he who is the fat caterpillar. But man oh man, it was a funny laugh arguing over who really was the chubby caterpillar!

Anyway, speaking of chubbiness... our little Joseph has been packing on the pounds! We took him to his 4 month check-up last Wednesday and he is doing great. He weighs 12lbs 6oz, which is still in the 8th percentile and he is just under 25 inches long which puts him around the 50th percentile for his heighth. He hasn't really rolled over any more than that one time we caught him on video. And bath time has been hated other than the one time I put the camera nearby to capture this shot because I had a feeling it would be a good bath day.

Joseph is such an alert baby and loves to smile at practically anyone. His laughs are becoming more and more frequent and that is just so fun. He always seems to smile and laugh when I am changing his clothes. He's wearing his 3 to 6 month old clothes now. He has a little colorful toy elephant, a stuffed teddy bear and a few rattles that he loves to play with. His newest favorite is sucking his pointer finger.

He has a little cough and congestion and I tell you what. Sucking out those boogies and waking up at 3 am to his coughing is just like my favorite thing in the world! I'm doing baby signing with him and am pretty much just using one sign: MILK for right now. I'll keep introducing more signs gradually. I'm really excited about doing this. I think it will be a fun way to help him communicate better earlier. I've been signing the abc's to him whenever I sing since he's been born and he always loves to watch the movements of my hands more than the movement of my mouth when I sign.

I'll go ahead and end this post with some more pictures of Joseph... just for you Melissa! But look for more posts coming soon because we just came home from a very blog-worthy weekend!

I'm Procrastinating

I saw a fabulous little sign at Hallmark a few months back. The saying on it is: "If it weren't for the last minute, I wouldn't get anything done!" So I've been procrastinating a lot of things lately.

I need to go through Joseph's clothes and switch over to the 3-6 month size. He's just about grown out of his 0-3 month stuff!

I need to hang pictures on the walls in my bedroom and Joseph's room.

I need to call my aunt Dixie.

I need to finish transcribing Lorina's life story.

I need to blog about Joseph's first successful bath in which he did not even so much as whine. He was so cute! I had a feeling he would not be crying during it, so I put the camera right by the sink before getting him ready so that I could snap a picture. I've got a cute one. So obviously now all I have to do is post the picture since I just blogged about it. But I'll do it later. :)

I need to blog about the books I've recently finished reading. I need to go through some of them and find some quotes. And I have to do it soon because they are already overdue at the library and I can't renew them because I've maxed out the renewals.

I need to call Pat and see if she's still been saving Sunday paper coupons for me.

I need to try printing out some pictures to see if they look good enough to put in this frame that I really want to set out on our foyer table.

I need to look over our expenses for the last month and make a new budget.

I need to get some white clothes for John and see if I can find a white blanket too.

I need to visit Jessie & Kyla.

I need to prepare a lesson for Primary on Sunday. I'm substituting again for the 5 year old class. But you know, I haven't really been procrastinating that one for very long at all. I just got the call today. I'm excited to teach them again. Two weeks ago I subbed and it was so fun! And there is this one little boy in the class who has THE most beautiful light green eyes I have EVER seen! I hope he's there again on Sunday. I probably won't be able to stop looking into his eyes.

I need to give Joseph another bath.

I need to make a decision about which vaccinations I'm going to get for Joseph and when. I'm reading The Vaccine Book from the library right now and it's very informative. And speaking of, I need to hurry and finish reading it because it also is overdue and I can't renew it because it's on hold for someone else!

I need to print off that stupid tax form and mail it in.

I need to make it official that I'm going to run the Hurricane 5k by registering for it. I actually have started training for it. I know, it's just a 5k, but for this lazy bum I need to train for those grueling 3 miles!

I need to mail off the car insurance payment. I was supposed to do that Monday. oops.

Speaking of mail, I need to check it. It's been a while.

I need to go to bed. It's 12:30. What in the world am I doing up.

And last of all, I need to change all of these "needs" to "wants." Then they will actually get accomplished, right Hanna? :)

ps. it would be really cool if I could somehow automatically turn this post into a checklist.

pps. I'm getting dangerously close to my 100th post. I've been contemplating how to celebrate it. Any ideas?

What's in a Name?

The twins are home now and doing well, as is their mom. Don't you think more twins seem to be being born these days? I do. Anyway, here's Mary

and Elizabeth.

I have always loved the name Elizabeth. I've wanted to name one of my daughters Elizabeth, but spell it Elisabeth. Apparently I'm not the only one. Come to find out at least two of my sister-in-laws have also wanted to name one of their daughters Elizabeth. And now that Kristi beat us all to it, what does that mean for our future children? I think we should all still stick to our names we like. So what if there are Elizabeth 1, 2, 3 & 4 at Thanksgiving dinner!

I've also always loved the name Emma. One of my good friends has named her two daughters Emma and Elizabeth. I still intended to use those names. And then she asked us if anything ever happened to her and her husband if John and I would become guardians of their children. So now, even though there is a slight possibility (heaven forbid) of those girls becoming our own... I still intend on using the names. lol. Am I crazy?

Would you still use a name that you really really like, even if someone else in your family or a close friend uses that name before you are able to?

53 Days

So rewind a year ago. It was March. I had gone 53 days with no sign of a period. Now, my cycles are usually longer than normal, but that was the longest I had gone. So I took a test. It was positive. Now we've got a darling little 3 month old son.

Now, it's March again, a year later. And...

today is day 53.

again...

....

.....

and my period started.

Yeah, it had me in suspense too.

Twins!

We had two nieces born this morning! They are so cute! I can't believe... they went full term and they were born at 7lbs 2oz and 7lbs 7oz! We think they are identical. Here is Mary June & Elizabeth Ann! I can't wait to meet them!
