Some people really seem to be concerned about the "troubled economy" these days. So I thought I would offer a few of my own suggestions of some things that you can do to save some extra moola. (these may not work exactly for everyone, but you can amend them to fit your own circumstances.)
1- Sleep as long as possible. Think about it. The longer you sleep in the morning and the earlier you go to bed at night = less time during the day that you have to think about eating! With the rising prices of groceries, this will save you so much. You'll definitely be cutting back on how much you eat throughout the day, because your day is so much shorter! Think of the dollars that will knock off your grocery bill!
2- Shower only 2 or 3 times a week. Pick a few of the most important days for you to look and smell your best and shower those times. The rest? Who cares! Your body adapts after a while and before long, no one would even guess that you haven't showered for the past 3 days. Think back to the days when people used to shower like once a month! And that was even before deodarant was invented! How does this save you money? Well, think of that utility bill... you'll be cutting your current water usage at least in half! What helps even more is if you have a very small (like 14 gallon) hot water tank in your house. That way, those showers will be nice and short because the hot water runs out at about 10 minutes.
3- Stay in your pajamas or underwear during the day. (Obviously this tip only applies to those who have the luxury of staying home during the days.) This way you aren't dirtying a pair of clothes just for the sake of wearing clothes. Likely no one will stop by unexpectedly anyway, so who are you trying to impress? If you only get dressed for the times you know someone will be visiting and when you have to run out and do some errands, you'll still be eliminating at least three outfits a week that would have to be cleaned! Better yet, as soon as you get home from your errands, take your clothes off again and you should be able to get a few more wears out of it before it has to be washed! This is a super saver since it will help you conserve more laundry soap and also save on your utitlity bill for your electricity or gas and all the water you would use to do the laundry more often. And here's even another savings that you may not have considered. The less you're wearing your clothes, the longer it takes for you to tire of them! Instead of going to your wardrobe and thinking, "I'm so sick of these old clothes... time to go shopping!" you'll open it up and think, "Wow! Look at all these clothes that have hardly been worn! What a great selection!" Thus saving a boatload on new clothing.
and my last tip for the day...
4- Just don't worry about checking the mail. Then you won't see all those bills and what you can't see can't hurt you, right!?

Holy is the Lord
Okay, here's a tag I got... :) Thanks Ashley! I really needed something random to do... :) As far as tagging someone else... if you want to do it, well then, you can't. Because I said so. Sorry.
Put your iPod or MP3 Player on Shuffle, and for each question, put the title of the song that comes up.
I don't have an iPod or MP3 Player... in fact, those are two things that I'm afraid I've fallen behind the times on. I don't even know how to work them or what they are really capable of, other than playing music. Sad huh. So I opened up my Windows Media Player and did this tag from my "fun listening" playlist.

30. WHAT HURTS RIGHT NOW?

31. WHAT WILL YOU POST THIS AS?

My own commentary on this totally random tag:
Some of the questions didn't apply to me, but I just let it be. Like "Will I Ever Get Married?" and "What Will You Dance to at Your Wedding?" Thankfully, I AM married. And I love it. It's the best ever.
The completely random answers that I really liked:
"What Would Best Describe Your Personality?" COME WHAT MAY. I am pretty easy going, a move with whatever happens (go with the flow) kind of person... all meaning that I don't tend to get shaken up or stressed out with things that happen, I'm able to take it in stride and still be happy. I really like being that way. It makes for quite an enjoyable ride.
"What Do You Like in a Guy/Girl?" WALK BY FAITH. Well, this could be another question that doesn't really apply to me, in the context I'm certain it's written. But I really do like it when people walk by faith!
"What is Your Motto?" LEAP OF FAITH. The answer isn't necessarily what I would have written... but for being random, it hits pretty close to the mark. Living by faith is a huge part of my life. This is what it means to me: I trust that God knows me, loves me and has a plan for me and that by putting my trust in His will, rather than the will of the flesh, that I will be led along the path that leads to the greatest joy - life eternal, life back in the presence of God. Trusting in Him and being obedient to His laws is what living by faith means to me.
"What Do Your Friends Think of You?" YOU NEVER LET GO. haha! I'm not a clingy friend, but I really do treasure the friendships I've developed throughout my life. I really don't let go of the memories or those friendships! I am so grateful for my friends and the influence they have had in my life. I LOVE the internet and think it is so fun to be able to stay in touch with friends and reconnect with old friends that I haven't talked to or heard from in a while. For a random answer, this one was pretty great. Once you're my friend, you'll always be my friend. :)
"What Do You Think About Very Often?" I WOULD WALK 500 MILES. Um, so I think a lot about exercise and the fact that I DON'T do it, but that I should. So I thought this was a rather appropriate random answer! haha!
"What is 2+2?" NOTHING ELSE I NEED. That's great the answer actually makes sense in response to this stupid question!
"What Do You Think of Your Best Friend?" EVERLASTING GOD. Appropriate. I like it. It's who I'd like to be my best friend, that's for sure.
"What is Your Life Story?" I'M ALIVE. Completely random answer and it totally fits! The tag was worth doing for this answer because it made me laugh. :)
"What Do You Think When You See the Person You Like?" THIS IS YOUR LIFE. Yep. John is my life. And I couldn't be happier that he is! :)
"What Do Your Parents Think of You?" INDESCRIBABLE. I like this answer. A lot. It hits right on the head, yet it's not necessarily good or bad.
"What Will They Play at Your Funeral?" HOW CAN I KEEP FROM SINGING. This was another answer that made me laugh and laugh!!!
"What is Your Hobby/Interest?" FIND YOUR WINGS. Actually, I liked this answer too because I really do spend a lot of time thinking about and learning more about myself. I enjoy looking for my wings. :)
"What is Your Biggest Secret?" MY WISH. And I can't tell you because then it won't come true!
"How Will You Die?" I CAN ONLY IMAGINE. Need I say more?
"Will You Ever Get Married?" CALL THE MAN. Not an applicable question to me, but great answer! :)
"Does Anyone Like You?" REMEMBER WHEN. This just makes me giggle. John's asking me what I'm laughing about.
The completely random answers that I didn't like:
"What's the Worst Thing That Could Happen?" CHILD OF LIGHT. I can't even laugh about this because it so goes against the grain in my heart because I think becoming a child of light is the BEST thing that could ever happen!!!
"What is the One Thing You Regret?" THE LOVE SONG. I never regret love. However, do I regret writing nerdy "love" letters (not songs) to my crushes? Maybe... no, I don't. They make for pretty great embarrassing moments and funny stories to pass along!
And all the rest of the answers were really completely random. And if you're as random as me you can dissect your random answers of this random tag when you do it too. No, wait. You can't. Because I said you can't do this tag even if you want to. Sorry!

Dumbing Us Down
I just finished a book that's been on my "to read" list for a long while. It was actually a really fast read, being only about 100 pages. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in "education." It's called Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling by John Taylor Gatto, who was a teacher in the New York City's public schools for over 30 years and who has received the New York City Teacher of the Year award and the New York State Teacher of the Year award. This really was a fabulous book that challenges the "system" and really gets the reader asking some important questions in their mind.
Here are a few passages that I really liked:
"What, after all this time, is the purpose of mass schooling supposed to be? Reading, writing and arithmetic can't be the answer, because properly approached those things take less than a hundred hours to transmit - and we have abundant evidence that each is readily self-taught in the right setting and time.
Why, then, are we locking kids up in an involuntary network with strangers for twelve years? Surely not so a few of them can get rich? Even if it worked that way, and I doubt that it does, why wouldn't any sane community look on such an education as positively wrong? It divides and classifies people, demanding that they compulsively compete with each other, and publicly labels the losers by literally de-grading them, identifying them as "low-class" material. And the bottom line for the winners is that they can buy more stuff! I don't believe that anyone who thinks about that feels comfortable with such a silly conclusion. I can't help feeling that if we could only answer the question of what it is we want from these kids we lock up, we would suddenly see where we took a wrong turn. I have enough faith in American imagination and resourcefulness to believe that at that point we'd come up with a better way - in fact, a whole supermarket of better ways.
One thing I do know, though: most of us who've had a taste of loving families, even a little taste, want our kids to be part of one. One other thing I know is that eventually you have to come to be part of a place - part of its hills and streets and waters and people - or you will live a very, very sorry life as an exile forever. Discovering meaning for yourself as well as discovering satisfying purpose for yourself, is a big part of what education is. How this can be done by locking children away from the world is beyond me."
"Whatever an education is, it should make you a unique individual, not a conformist; it should furnish you with an original spirit with which to tackle the big challenges; it should allow you to find values which will be your road map through life; it should make you spiritually rich, a person who loves whatever you are doing, wherever you are, whomever you are with; it should teach you what is important: how to live and how to die."

He also discloses the 7 lessons of what he really teaches in school. They make for an interesting read! I'll leave you hanging there. You can read the beginning of it here, or check it out from the library like I did.
So, let me know if you decide to pick up this book and read it!

Pregnancy

This pregnancy has been wonderful. I only have one more month left! Wednesday is my 36 week appointment where they will start to check my "progress" completely. I've heard that it becomes easier to get pretty anxious for the baby to come outta there once they start doing that because you hear every week how "close" you are.
Anyway, just for kicks and giggles, I wanted to do a little post about how this pregnancy has been for me. I feel like pointing to my stomach and saying, "except for the obvious, I don't even feel pregnant!" It really has been that good. During my first trimester, I did feel nauseous most of the time. I threw up around ten times. I only threw up about two more times into my second trimester. I had heartburn really bad once back in my second trimester, but then it didn't bother me since then until recently. But it's not nearly as bad as that first time. A few Tums and I'm good to go!
I haven't felt my baby kick me so hard that it hurts, like in the ribs. I do occasionally feel some weird movements that are pretty uncomfortable, but I have no idea what he is doing in there. I have a feeling though that I'm going to get some of those painful movements and kicks that I hear about during this last month. I haven't experienced any food cravings any more than I did when I wasn't pregnant, which is not very often anyway. I have taken a prenatal vitamin every day throughout this pregnancy, except for maybe a small handful of days when I was out of town and forgot to bring them with me. I have been able to sleep really well and I haven't really even noticed a big change in my sleep patterns from when I wasn't pregnant. (those who know me really well know what that means!) Of course I've experienced the joys of having to get up in the middle of the night a few times to pee, and definitely having to go more often throughout the day than I ever have before. And the wonderfulness of marshmallow feet. I say "wonderfulness" because it really is. Then I get to ask for foot massages all the time from my husband and those are wonderful! There have been only a few times when I have felt that my emotions are out of whack for no apparent reason and I've blamed that on the raging pregnancy hormones, but other than that I have felt really happy, peaceful and content with myself and life. That in and of itself is great reason to rejoice!
We are having our baby in the hospital. My top preference would be to have him at a birthing center, but there are none in St. George... yet. We considered doing a home birth, but decided against it at this time. At some point in my child birthing years though, I really would like to have that experience. I did decide to have a doula attend my hospital birth, and I am really excited about that. She has been a great resource to me so far, and I have been feeling so much better about anticipating labor, knowing that she will be there. And another thing that I am really looking forward to is having my mom with me! She will be coming the weekend before Joseph is due, and staying for about another three weeks after he's born! Knowing that I will have her help and support during that time is a great relief to me and eases a lot of worry.
As far as having things all ready for when the baby comes... we still don't feel totally ready, but we are making progress. I have had one baby shower so far and am having a second one on Saturday. After which I plan on going through everything I have and making a little inventory of what we will need after that. Joseph will be sharing our room with us, so I haven't really been putting any thought into "designing a nursery" for him. And in case you're wondering why he's sharing a room with us, it's because that's the only space we have for him! We'll be living here until the end of January, and possibly six months after that. The plan, however, is to be moving somewhere closer to John's work at that time. Packing, moving, new baby... yeah, I'll cross that bridge when it comes! :) I did find a picture of a changing table/dresser in a little magazine and asked John to build it. He did and it is beautiful, of course. It's really cool, in that when we are finished using it as a changing table, we can flip it over and use it for a dresser. It still needs a few finishing touches and then I will take pictures of it to post on here. We still don't have a place for him to sleep, but I have picked out what I'd like for him: a Graco Travel Lite Crib. It's what will work the very best with the limited space that we have. We have lots of clothes and blankets and some diapers too. And a car seat and a little portable swing. We don't have any bottles or pacifiers, a baby tub, or any other baby bath stuff (except for baby shampoo). Anyway, I'm looking forward to my shower and to getting everything ready for him. I can't believe he's coming so soon! This pregnancy hasn't seemed very long to me. All in all, I don't mind the idea of having many more pregnancies to come because this one has been so great!
Late for Church
This is why we were late to church this morning:
John's attempt to fix his glasses after he stepped on them this morning ended up with an exploded tube of super glue and his fingers seemingly permanently affixed to his glasses and even more stuck to the tube of glue!
What finally saved his fingers:

Lying in Bed
Why is it that when I'm lying in bed at night all I can think about is a hundred things I could blog about and then during the day I can't really think of any? Story of my life. I should keep a little notepad next to my bed and write down all of my fabulous post ideas so I'll remember them come morning. Speaking of a hundred things though... I've seen a list of 100 things about yourself on some friends' blogs so I guess I could blog about that. Here goes.
A Hundred Things About Lindsay
- Instead of doing this list I really should be eating some breakfast
- Even though it's already noon
- It's noon because I really like to sleep in
- And I do most days
- I am well aware that I won't be able to do this for very much longer
- So I'm stockpiling up on sleep... that'll work, won't it?
- Speaking of eating, I find it really annoying to have to do every day
- There are things I really like to eat, but just not to prepare
- I LOVE potato salad
- In fact, I basically love anything with potatoes
- Which is a good thing because my in-laws just gave us a gargantuan bag of potatoes
- Which means I have to prepare them all before they start sprouting
- My favorite fruits are peaches and kiwis
- I really love to cross stitch
- I've done it since I was 9 years old
- I also really love to read
- I read all sorts of stuff
- But my favorite books are ones that inspire me to be a better person
- I think I may possibly be addicted to the internet
- I'm singing in a community choir

- I've always wanted to be an actress
- And here's a breakdown of my extensive acting experiences:
- I took an acting class when I was 13
- I was in my 6th grade play and had the whole school laughing because I was so good at hamming it up
- I was in a Relief Society play about Eliza Snow
- I did it twice
- And that's it
- I did get headshots taken of me about a year ago though
- My dream is to be able to act in a production by the LDS Church
- Not a production by someone who is LDS
- But to be in something like The Testaments or Legacy
- I'm taking an adult Institute class on Thursdays with John
- We're studying the Doctrine and Covenants
- I have one brother and one sister
- And one half brother and one half sister
- And three step brothers and one step sister on one side

- And actually, I like it that way
- I'm 35 weeks pregnant today

- And it really was that awesome
- I don't like to kill bugs
- But I don't really like them much either
- So I help to usher them out of the house, or have my husband kill them

- And I've also sung in a choir at the Conference Center for General Conference too
- I really love people
- And people watching
- I believe in unicorns

Awwkward!!!
Well, I haven't gotten dressed yet today and it's almost 4:30pm. I try to wear clothes as little as possible being as pregnant as I am because I just find most of them very uncomfortable. Unless it's this awesome pair of pants that I found at the DI a few weeks ago. They don't even feel like I'm wearing pants! It's wonderful. But they are in the dirty clothes at the moment because I wore them for like three days in a row. Anyway, John usually gets home around this time, and in fact, I saw him out the office window with his arms full of stuff and looking at the cable cord at our house. I didn't know what he was doing, but a few minutes later, I heard a knock at the door. Being pretty positive that it was him wanting me to open the door for him I went to it and opened it so that I was standing completely behind the door. And he didn't walk in. And he didn't say anything. So I said, "JOHN?" He laughed and then stepped in, but in those few moments of silence I thought of how AWKWARD it would have been had I opened the door like that and it WASN'T my husband standing outside. I would have been stuck behind the door in my g's! And I would have had to shut the door in their face before they stepped in to save myself some serious embarrassment! Just picturing that situation of awkwardness really made me laugh!
